A message from Isaiah

Just when I thought I was getting better about not missing my babies, this happens:

hi lisa i love you wats up were bord we see a dog laying down i's sick i feel bad for it by by lisa

Isaiah later sent me another email that said "sorry I messed up". Apparently he really did type that all by himself and he was so proud that he told Michelle but when she read it she told him he misspelled some words and he wanted to write back to apologize and she told him that it was okay, that I knew what he was trying to say.

Later that day I called home and was talking to Isaiah. When he asked what I was doing I told him that I was heading to Walmart to get some groceries. He excitedly said "Walmart? Oh, I'll tell Mom and we can go meet you there!" Then I heard Michelle tell him "no baby, she's at the Walmart in Dallas".

He still doesn't understand how far I am in distance.

That's it damn it, I'm setting us all up on Skype!

January 20, 2009

History was made today and when I'm old and gray I want to remember
where I was and how I felt.

I wanted so badly to be in D.C. for the inauguration, but the move to
Dallas and Liz's wedding didn't really allow for me to take time off
to make the trek to the capitol. So, instead I'm at work in my new
office, watching the CNN live video feed on my computer. At the time
of the swearing in, Katherine and I parked ourselves in front of the
TV in her bosses office.

Overwhelming pride brought tears but I was able to hold them back. I
can't wait to get home after work so I can watch the rest of the
celebration in the comfort of my new apartment.

Finally in Dallas

More to come later but I just wanted to leave a quick note to say that I made it to Dallas. My mom is still in the hospital (doctors wanted to keep an eye on her blood pressure) and God willing she will come home tomorrow. I felt bad about having to say my good-bye's to her in the hospital, especially since I had begun to cry that morning and was having a really hard time not getting emotional with her. I also hate not being there to help her once she's home, but I did help bathe her on Saturday, so I did my daughterly duties!

This week will be crazy nuts as I get myself, my boss and our team settled into our new offices and then I'm flying back home this weekend for my cousins wedding (which I'm photographing, yikes!) but when I'm back and a little more settled I'll post pics from my going away party that my sisters threw for me on Saturday night.

The picture above is one of the lovely gifts I received. My K-Town friend, Cindy, didn't want me to forget that my heart belongs to the Spurs and not the Mavericks. As if!

New Year, New Look

Don't you just love my new blog design? Courtesy of Marina at Penny Lane Designs, she's fantastic!!

2008 sure was an exciting year. I went to Hawaii with my folks, found out my company was relocating to Dallas, Dad had a heart attack the very next day, and at the end of the year, right before Christmas we found out mom had 30-40% blockage in her main artery and would also need an open heart surgery. She's having that surgery today, as I type this. As soon as they notified us that the surgery had started and was going well, I brought Dad home so he could take his diabetes meds and then we'll be back before her surgery ends. Here's to hoping that my family remains surgery free for the rest of the year!!! (** update ** Mom's double bypass went very well and we're hoping for a speedy recovery!)

What's in store for 2009?

- Moving to Dallas on January 11th and getting myself, my boss and my team settled in our new office.

- Exploring Dallas and all that it has to offer, which I hear is a lot.

- Getting Fit by 40!!! May 21st is the big 4-0 (I expect cards from you all!) and I'm determined to conquer my weight issues and to be healthy and slammin' by my 40th.

- Marcus graduates high school this year....my oldest nephew is all grown up and I can't quite accept that!

- Going on a US City Tour this year. So many places I want to visit (San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, New York, etc.) so I'm determined to do so in weekend trips throughout the year.

- Read more books...I read 8 in 2008, I'm going for 9 in 2009!

- And work on the rest of the tasks on my "To Do" Life List.

PS. I did wonderfully on my 2008 goal of making my bed every morning but washing my face every night and not procrastinating...not so much!
